Maj. HPS Ahluwalia
Chairman and Founder Member of Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC), Chairman of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
Maj. HPS Ahluwalia is chairman and founder member of Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) an Indo-Italian Co-operation Programme, set up to render super-specialty services for spinal injury management. ISIC, a Comprehensive Care and Rehabilitation & Training centre for spinal injured patients. Indian Spinal Injuries Centre is poised to be the largest centre in Asia of its kind. Maj. HPS Ahluwalia is also chairman of Rehabilitation Council of India
(RCI).

Born in Simla,
Maj. HPS Ahluwalia, his two sisters, and his younger brother grew up in
Simla. His father was employed as a Civil Engineer in the Central Public
Works Department. Harry's wife, Mrs. Bholi Ahluwalia is involved with the
hospital's work and daughter, Sugandh is pursuing in Hotel Administration
Course. Harry attended St. Joseph's Academy and St. George's College,
Mussorie. There, he discovered his interest in photography and rock climbing
too.

In 1958, Harry commissioned into the Army. In 1960, he completed one Diploma course in Automobile Engineering from Secunderabad. After completing Diploma, Harry entered in Millitary Engineering College, Pune for graduation course in Electrical Mechanical Engineering and attained his Bachelor's Degree in 1964. Side by side of
the Graduation course Harry's interest in Climbing rocks get increased. Some
of the places where Harry did his rock climbing are Garhwal, Sikkim, Nepal
and Ladakh Himalayas MOUNT EVEREST, Conquered Mount Everest on 29th

In 1965 September, Maj. H.P.S. Ahluwalia get wounded in Indo-Pak war in
Kargil. He confined to a wheelchair by a bullet in the Indo-Pak war. A
bullet in the spine, from a Pakistani soldier’s gun, had left Maj.
Ahluwalia paralyzed waist down! What followed was the triumph of grit and
determination. As Maj. Ahluwalia says, “I learnt to climb the Everest of
the mind”. He started his life from a hospital bed at Stoke Mandwelle,
U.K. where he was sent for rehabilitation and in 1967 returned from Stoke
Mandeville Hospital, U.K.
Later on in the
April 1988, He joined Central Services in IOFS cader, Department of Defence
Production, Ministry of Defense. In 1994, he retired from Ministry of
Defence as Additional Director General.
Maj. H.P.S.
Ahluwalia became the Chairman of, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) in
1996.
In 1997, He
became the Member of the Central Executive Committee constituted under the
Provisions of the persons with disability, 1965.
In 1998, Maj.
H.P.S. Ahluwalia became member of Rehabilitation Council of India. And in
June 2000 he joined as Chairman of Rehabilitation Council of India.
